Tommy Wyatt plays bass guitar and sings the high
background vocals on most songs. He sings lead on this 7th track. I wish he was
still with us.

HISTORY / COMMENTARY: In the spring of that year Tommy Wyatt
joined Tim and I at the Kove on bass and vocals. Tim knew Tommy from Opp,
Alabama and he was very talented but the best thing about Tommy was his
attitude. He was always easy-going, grinning, and ready to play. He laughed
easily and never needed attention. But, maybe he needed more attention than we
knew, because he died, by his own choice, later that year. I was awfully
self-centered during that time of my life (for about 20 years) and I didn't even
know he felt that hopeless. Tommy Wyatt is one of those people I would like to
call after all these years to renew a friendship.
Let me say something about Tim Jackson. Tim is different kind of
musician in that, when he plays, he intentionally has a good time. He's not just
there for the music and to be cool, he is entertaining. He laughs and lets
people have fun without making fun of them. Tim Jackson has a knack for finding
talented people and letting them do their best. He plays very steady, dependable
rhythm guitar and knows what songs to sing for himself and others. He knows and
accepts vocal limits better than I do. Half the music I have found on these
tapes is no good to hear, and you won't, because I am trying to sing stuff for
which I don't have the range. Some of my favorite songs to sing are ones that
Tim suggested that I would sound good singing. I had never heard of Jonathan
Edwards or his song "Emma" but it was perfect for my voice and it is a beautiful
song (see the 'Dixie Hat Band' list). Tim has become a good and steady friend. We had a band named
SAILOR, years later, that was an excellent band (I haven't found any decent
sounding tapes of that band, yet). He made Harry T's Boathouse in Destin famous with
the band he started for that place. Now he is at the new Hog's Breath in Destin
and has a new band that is full of some of the best musicians down there. The
thing that Tim is most involved in is his family and a spiritual life that is
benefiting everybody around him. Some of the best players in that area play in
his church group every Sunday. And, while playing at the Destin Hog's Breath, he
regularly asks people to visit the church, and they do. We played tennis
together recently at the Sandestin Resort and he beat me badly without laughing,
which I appreciate.
